ILOILO CITY, Jan. 19 (PIA) -- A former Iloilo village chief, who is also a member of Milisya ng Bayan, a New People's Army ( NPA) local military unit, surrendered to the army, January 18, in Brgy. Libot, Calinog, Iloilo.
Through the radio program of 100.1 K3 FM, a local radio broadcasting system managed by the Civil Military Operations Battalion of the 3rd Infantry Division, alias "Sam" voluntarily surrendered to the station bringing with him several firearms with ammunition, 301st Infantry Brigade Acting Civil Military Operations Officer Capt. Ruel Llanes said in a press release.
He surrendered three firearms including one .38 Magnum caliber with five ammunitions, one homemade Rambo type shotgun with five ammunitions and magazine; and one homemade firearm with seven M16 ammunitions and magazine.
Alias "Sam," who was received by 12th Infantry Battalion for proper documentation and disposition of Firearms, claimed that he was a member of Milisya ng Bayan in Brgy. Ginbunyogan, Calinog, Iloilo.
Llanes said that per army record from January 1, 2021 to January 19, 2021, "Sam" is the 310th NPA supporter who surrendered in Panay Island.
Meanwhile, Colonel Orlando Edralin, the Officer-in-charge of the 301st Infantry Brigade, said that the people are now more discerning and able to distinguish the truth from the lies.
"They are already aware and have realized that the NPAs' ideologies are only based on deception and are used to further their own vested interests," Edralin said.
He re-echoed the persistent call of the Army in Panay to the remaining members and supporters of the NPA to abandon the group's violent ways.
"We call on our other brothers and sisters who are still supporting NPA's senseless armed struggle to take a cue from our kababayans who are now living a normal and peaceful life," he said.
He added that "Cooperating with the terrorist is a betrayal not only to the government but also to your community and your own family." (PIA6/Capt. Ruel Llanes/CMO-301Bde)
