The New York Red Bulls hope the road to success starts away from home when they visit expansion Inter Miami CF on Wednesday night.

The Red Bulls (4-6-2, 14 points) are mired in a 1-4-1 stretch over their last six matches. However they have collected four points in their last two contests on the road.

New York battled to a 1-1 draw with New England on Aug. 29 and posted a 2-0 victory at D.C. United on Sept. 12 before dropping a 1-0 decision at home to FC Cincinnati on Saturday. Despite the setback, the Red Bulls reside in eighth place in the Eastern Conference and just three points out of fifth.

Generating offense remains a sticky issue for New York, which is one of three MLS clubs with single-digit goal totals this season. Midfielder Daniel Royer and defender Kyle Duncan share the team lead with two goals apiece.

"We'd like to be a little bit more threatening in the wider areas, we'd like more movement off the ball, we'd like people to take more shots," Red Bulls interim coach Bradley Carnell said. "There's a lot on our agenda, there's a big to-do list, and we just keep filing away at it every training session.

"The guys are staying afterwards, it's not for lack of training, not for lack of trying, there's guys staying after, doing the extra bit. We have to feel that it's a matter of time."

Expansion Inter Miami CF (3-7-2, 11 points) sit one point out of playoff position after posting a 2-1 win on the road over Atlanta United FC on Saturday. Two of Miami's three victories have come at the expense of Atlanta.

Miami manager Diego Alonso credited the recent play of Brek Shea, who scored the game-winning goal against his former team for his second tally in as many matches.

"We're happy with the performances Brek has been putting in. He's helping the team a lot," Alonso said. "He joined the team late and was coming off a long-term injury, and little by little he's been getting in the rhythm necessary to play, and he's helped us grow as a team."
