Tokyo stocks rise strongly Monday, broader market lags

<p>SYDNEY, Australia - The U.S. dollar broadly fell in Asia on Monday while stocks were decidely mixed.</p><p>The best performer on the day was Tokyo&#39;s Nikkei 225, which rose 298.55 points or 1.37% to close at 22,169.11.</p><p>In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng conversely gave up 99.04 points or 0.33%, to last trade at 29,810.72.</p><p>The Australian All Ordinaries was flat, rising just 0.90 of a point or 0.01% to 6,307.90.</p><p>In China, the Shanghai Composite slipped 10.84 points or 0.34% to 3,172.79.</p><p>The euro consolidated above the 1.1300 handle, to last trade at 1.1315 iaround the Sydney close on Monday.</p><p>The British pound cruised up to 1.3095.</p><p>The Japanese yen was little changed at 111.96.</p><p>The Swiss franc rose to 1.0021.</p><p>The Canadian dollar was a fraction stronger at 1.3335.</p><p>The Australian dollar advanced to 0.7173, while the New Zealand dollar gained to 0.6767.</p>
