Israeli police say Olmert should be charged
Jacksonville News.Net Sunday 7th September, 2008
Prosecutors in Israel have been told by police investigators that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert should be indicted in over a corruption investigation.
The decision about whether to indict Mr Olmert now rests with Attorney General Meni Mazuz.
Mr Olmert has consistently denied all the accusations against him but has already announced he will resign later this month because of the corruption investigations.
His ruling Kadima party is to hold a leadership vote on 17th September.
The police have said they had evidence showing Mr Olmert allegedly accepted tens of thousands of dollars in bribes from American businessman Morris Talansky.
Dated allegations from when Mr Olmert was mayor of Jerusalem have also implicated him in the filing of duplicate claims to government agencies for travel expenses.
